Image Quality

Speed

The camera starts up and is ready to shoot in a very short time. it has a 6.5 frames per second rate to capture fast action shots. The high speed also allows you to snap extra images when taking portrait shots to overcome the problem of people blinking. The large buffer allows up to 75 images to be taken non stop at the 6.5 frames per second rate. At a 3 FPS rate images can be taken continuously.

User Friendly

The camera is particularly user friendly with intuitive controls. Even for a newcomer to digital SLR cameras the controls are easy to use and excellent photos can be taken right out of the box when used in automatic mode. The tabbed menu system suits more experienced users well and allows quick and easy set up of favorite settings.

Software

The supplied software is compatible with PC’s, Macs and Windows Vista.

The size and weight feels right and most users agree that the camera feels very well balanced and ‘just right’

LCD Screen

The screen is larger and brighter than many other digital cameras and can be easily seen even in bright sunlight.

Live View Feature

100% of the scene can be viewed on the LCD screen which is particulary useful when you need to shoot with the camera above your head or low down on the ground, in a crowd perhaps. It is also very useful when using the camera with a tripod.

Other Features

There are many high end functions available on the Canon EOS 40D camera. One feature particularly liked by users is the ability to create and store frequently used setting. A built in flash, a second view screen on top of the camera and a cord for previewing images on the TV are all included.

The ISO, shutter speed and aperture are all displayed in the view finder which can help to eliminate taking shots with the wrong settings.

Sensor Cleaning

An automatic sensor cleaner operates whenever the camera starts up or shuts down. There is also a manual setting.

Some Disadvantages

For some people the location of the controls and the on/off switch is a disadvantage and a few people find the camera a bit too big or heavy. There is no wireless remote.
